To have an effective knowledge management system and an engaged and collaborative workforce, you need leaders and managers who are skilled in coaching, developing, inspiring and empowering their people.

According to the CIPD’s Learning and Talent Development Survey 2013, 72 per cent of organisations report a deficit of management and leadership skills, even though 66 per cent said they provided training in this area. Managers themselves believe they face particular challenges around handling difficult conversations, performance and change, as well as coaching and development. Yet when employees are satisfied with their immediate manager, say CIPD figures, the results are felt in team performance and satisfaction with the wider organisation.
